Dr Rami Seth MBE FRCS
Nottingham 

Rami was born in India and studied medicine in New Delhi. He was President of the student’s union and participated in sports and debates. He went to England in 1966 to continue his medical education obtaining his Fellowship of The Royal College of Surgeons in 1969.  He quickly established himself into the English way of life to the extent that he met and married Jenny, the mother of their two children.  He is now a proud grand father of four.

Rami is a keen Rotarian since 1972 and has served his club as President twice as was elected District Governor in 1983-84.  He chartered four new Rotary Clubs as District Extension Officer and seventeen Rotaract Clubs as District Rotaract Chairman.  He has represented the President of Rotary International at several conferences. He was awarded The Paul Harris Fellowship in 1984.  Rami was Chair of Vocational Service Committee of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland 1985-86.

He has been heavily involved with medical education. He served as a GP, GP tutor for Nottingham University, and as a Surgeon at the City Hospital and for the Family Planning association.  His special interests were in bladder cancer, vasectomies and erectile dysfunction.  He was elected as the President and Trustee of the Nottingham Med-Chi Society in 2002. He is a past President of Nottinghamshire Medico-Legal Society. He is proud to have served in the National Health Service for over 40 years.

Rami lists his hobbies as travel, writing, golf and he is an avid cricket follower.  He enjoys Ceroc dancing, Bowling and topiary.  He talks humorously about his experiences as an Indian in England, the idiosyncrasies of the English language, his travels and his experiences as a Doctor and as a patient.  Rami also enjoys the challenge of adapting his speeches to his audience and he is a popular after dinner speaker and guest lecturer on cruise liners.
 

He was given The British Asian Doctor of Eminence Award for 2003, and appointed MBE by Her Majesty The Queen in 2007 for services to Rotary International and the community in Nottinghamshire.

Rami has nearly won his battle against anorexia!
