Lord
Birkett has had one of those interesting lives that make a talk fascinating.
Seduced away from university by the film world, he was employed at Ealing
Studios - was a tea boy on 'The Lady Killers' eventually becoming an
Assistant Director on several Ealing films (Billy Budd, Dunkirk, The
Innocents) worked with Ustinov, Peter Brooks, Peter Hall. Worked at
the National Theatre - deeply involved in music (chairman, Park Lane
Group, on the council of The Royal Philharmonic Society etc.) Director
of Recreation & Arts for the GLC - supervised 1500 acres of non-Royal
London Parks. Made cinema and TV commercials - is a man who is convinced
that our lives are profoundly affected by what we see and breathe every
hour.
A charming and very amusing speaker. |
