David Battie left
Art School and became a Graphic Designer before starting a new career
as a porter at Sotheby's in 1967. He worked in the Departments of Ceramics
and Oriental Works of Art and was appointed a Director in 1976. He retired
in 1999.
He has written the Guide to Undertsanding Pottery and the Guide to Understanding 19th and 20th Century British Porcelain and is the editor of Sotherby's Encyclopedia of Porcelain and co-editor of the companion Encyclopedia of Glass. He was General Editor of Reader's Digest Treasures in Your Home and has also contributed chapters to various other publications as well as writing frequently for a variety of magazines. He now also edits Masterpiece magazine. He has appeared on the Antiques Roadshow since the first series in 1979 and makes numerous appearances on other radio and television programmes. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and lectures on a wide range of topics in this country and abroad to NADFAS, antiques societies, business executives and other groups. Topic:- Antiques |
