Isobel Williams qualified in medicine at St.George's Hospital, London, and pursued a busy career specialising in respiratory medicine. While she was at the hospital she came across some beautiful paintings by Edward Wilson which the explorer had donated to the hospital. The beauty of his work on Antarctica impressed her so much that when she retired she researched his life and work, writing several books about the man who shared Scott's journey.
